Dr. Johanna Higgins is an Early Interventionist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) that resides in Omaha, Nebraska with her husband and two young sons. She holds degrees in Special Education from the University of Pittsburgh with a specialization in services for young children with autism and their families. Most recently, she was an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and coordinator of the online, graduate-level Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Program. In this position, she developed coursework and training for early childhood teachers based on the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Early Intervention/ECSE Practice-Based Standards (https://www.dec-sped.org/ei-ecse-standards). In this role, Johanna partnered with the Early Development Network (EDN) and received several personnel preparation grants to train teachers and related professionals. Before Nebraska, Johanna lived in Hawai'i supervising and training Early Intervention providers and registered behavior technicians (RBTs) to support individuals across the lifespan. Currently, she is collaborating with Dr. Miriam Kuhn at the University of Nebraska-Omaha to explore the experiences of Early Intervention Part C services coordinators.
