Day 1 Intensive

It can be confusing seeking services for young children, especially in acronym shorthand…CPP, COSP, PCIT. If you have ever wanted to know more about the acronyms, this session is for you. We will provide an overview of Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Circle of Security Parenting and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, using case examples and treatment goals. There will also be time set aside for questions and discussions.

Learning Objectives

• The attendees will have a good overview of Help Me Grow Nebraska and learn who the initiative serves and how to refer children into HMG.

The session will review Adverse Childhood Experiences and the impact of stress on development domains 0 to 3. One significant stressor we have all been dealing with the last two years is the impact that COVID-19 has had on each of us, our children, our loved one, our coworkers, etc. What is the impact and how is that affecting myself and others? My work? The children? What can I do? Why does the impact affect each of us in different ways? How might compassion for self and others impact both my professional and personal lives.

Navigating conversations with families involved in the child welfare system can be complicated and difficult. Trauma histories often impact their ability to regulate their emotions and retain information. Making it even more complicated, parents often interpret their surroundings and interactions, as a threat, whether real or perceived, due to dysregulated stress response systems. This session will help professionals learn how to navigate these difficult conversations through the following strategies:
