Session Description

In recent years, Nebraska’s affordable housing shortages have contributed to a growing number of families experiencing housing instability and homelessness. These conditions are linked to a range of detrimental outcomes for children and families, including disruptions in healthy development, academic achievement, and overall family well-being.

This session will synthesize current Nebraska data and highlight the developmental and family outcomes most strongly associated with homelessness. Presenters will review evidence-based approaches that have been shown to reduce family homelessness and buffer its harmful effects, including Housing First and Permanent Supportive Housing, Rapid Re-Housing, and trauma-informed service delivery.

Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how housing stability shapes child and family outcomes, as well as practical strategies for helping families access housing services and supports in Nebraska.
